Ruling out all five vowels feels like a dead end. It is not — it is the narrowest and most solvable position in the entire game, because only 36 five-letter words qualify.
When you reach that point, you are no longer guessing. You are choosing from a list short enough to read.
How a word survives without a vowel
Almost every word here leans on Y doing vowel work: CRYPT, GLYPH, LYNCH, MYRRH, TRYST. Y is not counted as a vowel on this page, which is what makes these words qualify, but phonetically it is carrying the syllable.
A handful go further and use no Y either, relying on a syllabic consonant instead. Those are the rarest words in the game and worth memorising simply because there are so few.
When you actually land here
Two guesses that between them test A, E, I, O and U will occasionally come back with every vowel grey. Most players treat that as a disaster. It is the opposite — you have just eliminated over ninety-nine percent of the possibility space in two moves.
The correct response is to stop guessing for information and start reading this list against whatever consonants you have confirmed.
The letters that show up
Y appears in nearly every entry, usually in position two or three. After Y, the most common letters here are R, S, T, C and L — the consonants that cluster most freely in English.
If you have ruled out Y as well as all five vowels, you are down to a handful of words, and the puzzle is almost certainly solvable in one more guess.
A warning about game dictionaries
Daily puzzles rarely use these as answers. They are legal guesses in most games but uncommon choices for a solution, so treat a no-vowel candidate as a real possibility rather than a likely one.
If your game rejects one of these outright, that is a dictionary difference rather than an error here.
